Opening a small business is a major pillar of the American Dream. Today, a whopping 33 million Americans have turned their small business dreams into reality. In today’s crowded retail marketplace, there’s one surefire way to set yourself apart, and that’s with well-designed business labels for products.

If this is your first time designing labels for your products, you’re probably wondering what goes into the art of product label design. Read on to learn all about the ingredients in a perfect product label recipe!

Design Elements

Before selecting the elements for your product label design, you first want to think about your target demographic. They typically have specific tastes, and they should be reflected in the label to help draw them in. Start with brand logos and work from there.

For example, decor for college dorm rooms typically has brighter colors and is more youthful. On the other hand, if you’re selling high-end candles, you’ll want to lean into more elegant, simple designs.

Consider how big you’d like the label to be, and what materials you’d like to use for the label. Both should be suited to the item and the storage environment for the product. Finally, add on a barcode with c# to make product sales simple.

Ingredient Information

If you’re creating food or cosmetic products, it’s critical that you develop a thorough ingredient list. Familiarize yourself with some of the most common food allergens, like peanuts, soy, and shellfish. If your product contains any known allergens, it’s a good practice to disclose it in bold print following the ingredient list to make it easy for consumers to locate.

Similarly, if your cosmetic products contain common allergens, you need to list them, too. Whether you’re selling food or cosmetics, you don’t have to give up your proprietary information for transparency with your consumers. It is typically okay to use terms like “spices” as long as you’re disclosing allergens.

If you aren’t sure whether you need to disclose an ingredient, be sure to check with an attorney.

Instructions for Use

While you might think your product is intuitive to use, some of your consumers may not. For this reason, you should include brief information about instructions for use on your product label. This can be on a separate label on the back of the product, but it’s ideal if you include it.

If you’re worried about running out of space, consider adding a QR code that directs consumers to a web page with a thorough set of instructions.

Make Your Business Labels for Products Stand Out!
